Paralympic Games in Paris 2024

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place between August 28 and September 8, 2024, and will host more than 4,000 athletes from around the world competing in 549 medal events.

The Paralympic Games will feature 22 sports..

Here is a list of the events that will be included:



  1.      Athletics (Track and Field)

Athletics includes a wide range of track and field events, adapted to accommodate different types of physical, visual, and intellectual impairments. Up to 1,069 athletes will compete across 164 medal events.

Here’s an overview of the events:


Track Events:

  • Sprints:   100, 200 & 400 meters

  • Distance:   800, 1500 & 5000  meters

  • Relays:   4x100 & 4X400 meters relays

  • Wheelchair Racing: These events are held at various distances (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and marathon).

  • Guided Events for Visually Impaired Athletes: Athletes with visual impairments run with a sighted guide and compete in many of the same distances as other athletes.

  • Marathon: Athletes compete over a 42.195-kilometer distance.


Field Events:

  1. Throwing Events:

  • Shot put

  • Discus throw

  • Javelin throw

  • Club throw (specific to certain disability classifications)

  1. Jumping Events:

  • Long jump

  • High jump

  1. Seated Throws: For athletes who compete from a seated position due to mobility impairments, including shot put, discus, and javelin.


Multi-Class Events:

Many Paralympic events are divided into classifications based on the type and degree of athletes' impairments, ensuring fair competition. Each classification is denoted by a code (e.g., T11 for track events for athletes with visual impairments, F34 for field events for athletes with coordination impairments).

Athletics is one of the most diverse and inclusive sports in the Paralympics, with events tailored to a wide range of athletes.

  2.        Badminton

  3.        Boccia

Boccia is a precision ball sport that is similar to bocce and is specifically designed for athletes with severe physical disabilities. It was originally developed for people with cerebral palsy but is now open to athletes with a range of physical impairments that affect motor skills.


  1.         Canoe

  2.         Cycling (Road and Track)

  3.         Equestrian

  4. VIII.       Football 5-a-side

Also known as blind football, designed for athletes with visual impairments. It’s a modified version of traditional soccer with rules and adaptations that make it accessible and competitive for visually impaired players.


  1.        Goalball

A unique team sport designed specifically for athletes who are visually impaired. It was created in 1946 to help rehabilitate visually impaired World War II veterans and has since become a Paralympic sport.


  1.         Judo

  2.         Powerlifting

  3.        Rowing

  4. XIII.       Shooting Para Sport

  5. XIV.       Sitting Volleyball

  6.        Swimming

  7. XVI.      Table Tennis

  8. XVII.     Taekwondo

  9. XVIII.    Triathlon

The triathlon consists of three consecutive segments:

  1. Swimming: 750 meters (open water)

  2. Cycling: 20 kilometers (road cycling, handcycling, or tandem cycling for visually impaired athletes)

  3. Running: 5 kilometers (running, wheelchair racing, or using a running prosthesis)

Athletes are classified into different categories based on the nature and severity of their impairments.

  1. XIX.      Wheelchair Basketball

  2. XX.       Wheelchair Fencing

  3. XXI.     Wheelchair Tennis

  4. XXII.    Wheelchair Rugby:

Also known as "Murderball," is known for its intensity and physicality. It's a fan favorite for its dramatic and fast-paced nature.



These sports offer a range of events for athletes with different types of disabilities.


Some of the most popular Paralympic sports are :


  1. Wheelchair Basketball: Is one of the most popular and widely watched Paralympic sports. It's fast-paced, highly competitive, and has a large following worldwide.


  2. Para Athletics (Track and Field): tend to draw a lot of attention due to their variety and the inspirational performances of the athletes. The 100m sprints, in particular, are always a highlight.


  3. Swimming: Like athletics, swimming is a core Paralympic sport with many events, and it tends to attract a lot of viewers.


  1. Wheelchair Rugby:.


  2. Football 5-a-side: Popular in countries with strong football traditions, this sport is especially popular in regions like South America.



The Paralympic Games will utilize many of the same venues as the Summer Olympics 2024.
