Being of Service to others

Words from the wise:

Find something to be grateful for each day, stay resilient and be of service to others.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service to others." - Mahatma Gandhi

I notice when I am grateful I am happy. When I can be of service I am happier. It just feels good to help others.

Today I was at the grocery store and a woman in a wheelchair asked me to find the correct item for her, she could not read the labels. I did and then I helped her with something else... It felt so good that I just wanted to follow her around the store helping. I left that store energized and grateful for the ability to do that.

Being of Service does not have to mean that you go to the homeless shelter every week and feed the homeless - but that is not a bad idea.

  • You can help an elderly or disabled person pick up some groceries or run errands.

  • Help a person pump their gas.

  • Open the door for someone.

  • Help someone use their digital device.

  • Read the ingredients on a label for someone who can't see well.

  • Call to check up after surgery, injury, or event.

  • Call to just say how are you doing? And listen to their entire answer, then ask if there is anything they need.

  • Help feed feral cats

  • You can be of service to someone you know or a stranger.

  • It can be a one-time thing or something that you do regularly.

  • Any gesture of kindness and assistance works.

So, I encourage you to think of someone you know who is in need… How can you be of service? What could you do to help? Whatever you come up with, just go do it. You will feel better, and they will be exceedingly grateful.

If they do not show gratitude - not your problem.. do for others because you want to do it, not for what you will get from it.

Be in the present and be the gift to someone else.

Make someone’s day.
